Robots, the President, and AmeriCorps
As part of today’s White House Science Fair, we are announcing a major expansion of STEM AmeriCorps to spur student interest in science, technology, engineering, and math education. A new summer program will place 256 AmeriCorps VISTA members in six Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and West Virginia) to connect 18.000 at-risk students in low-performing schools to STEM opportunities. We are also joining with US2020 and Citizen Schools to support 25 AmeriCorps VISTA members serving in seven cities to increase STEM opportunities for girls, underrepresented minorities, and children from low-income families. This expansion builds on existing STEM AmeriCorps partnerships with FIRST, Maker Education Initiative, Citizen Schools, Teach for America, and other organizations. Altogether, these efforts engage tens of thousands of students in STEM learning - building ladders of opportunity and helping our nation compete for the jobs and industries of the future.

Happy Last Day of Classes! Now Plan Ahead for Success!

Where did the year go? Seems like just yesterday we were sending our Service TREK participants out into the community, greeting our new students at the First Year Picnic, signing up for cool stuff at Activities Fest… and suddenly it’s our last day of classes! Congratulations everyone on a fantastic year.

As we look forward to the next academic year, it’s important to plan ahead. Time flies - so we’ve developed a calendar to help student leaders select dates and plan ahead around major events, see the academic calendar, and reminders for each time of the academic year.

Download our 2014-2015 planning calendar and other resources to help you manage your student organizations on our website.
